How it worked Back before iMovie… before anybody was making video bumpers or video shorts for worship service use… there was only powerpoint.  During those years, we walked to the edge of powerpoint’s artistic capabilities (it does TOO have some).  Some of us got really good at doing that. Some of us still turn to powerpoint when it comes to creating something quickly that has to do with photos & text.  I’m just sayin’.

So the presentation of excerpts from Psalm 130 was created on powerpoint; text fading in & out over thematically selected photos. Our briiiilliant keyboard player provided an appropriately ethereal soundtrack behind it, and we moved directly from the scripture into Amazing Grace/My Chains are Gone.  This, coming from the strength of a song like You Never Let Go, was designed to allow us to spend some time thanking God for being present when things aren’t so great around us, especially when our circumstances are our own fault.

Overall, the songs we included this morning were solid selections, led well by a band including two very competent high school students. It was a fun morning in musician land.

Worship leader/planner/song selector peeps… ‘Glorified’ by Jared Anderson is probably the greatest song you’re not doing. He released a studio version with full band a few years ago on his album “Where Does Faith Come From”. He also has an album releasing July 22 that includes a piano/vocal version of the song.  It’s theologically rich, musically accessible, and pretty… so there you go. You should try it.

Our message today was a practical exhortation to fight for our marriages. Pastor Steve referenced ‘Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage’, an event coming to our area soon. Check it out!

This post is a part of Sunday Setlists on Fred’s blog.

  1. “Some of us still turn to powerpoint when it comes to creating something quickly that has to do with photos & text.”….I’m slightly obsessed with Jared Anderson. Can’t wait for the new CD.
