Pictures. Help. Me.

camera-wallpaper-2

I take a lot of pictures. I take most of them with my phone.

I take pictures of my family. I take pictures of happenings at work.
I take pictures of funny, silly, trivial things.

I take a lot of pictures.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what to do with them. The ones I want to keep, I mean.

I could never stay on top of this when physical files, boxes, and albums were the only option.

Now, there are endless options/services/websites to use for storing/sharing/organizing.

iPhoto
flickr
picasa
facebook
posterous
tumblr

and on… and on….

And they all talk to each other. Well, in theory.

I need help. I need ideas. What do you do with all your pictures?

    Hi kim:
iPhoto, PhotoShop Elements (and others) have ‘tagging’ features that are helpful. At least then you don’t have to rename something from IMG1244 to something you recognize. Tagging lets you leave the original image as it is in whatever folder you placed it, and search by tag name, date, place, etc. I think the theory is look at them once, delete what you don’t want, and tag the rest.

This is advice I haven’t yet taken to heart at our place – though we may have more photos from a few decades before you were born – till now.

Good advice, Don. I haven’t taken advantage of the tagging features enough. And yes… a bit harder to do that to the pics that are still in the shoeboxes!

  2. Sadly I do the same thing you do! Hang on to them. I have backed up a lot of my pictures on Shutterfly and organized them into albums according to year. It’s great because then I can share them, make gifts or print them right from the site. But I’m terrible about cleaning up and deleting from my computer!

ohhhh there’s one I forgot to list! Shutterfly! :) I guess I just have a hard time trusting that a photo can exist only on a web-based service and be safe. As if my own computer can’t lose them. Sigh…. Thanks for the comment!
