Thing One: Mommy, we want to go on a treasure hunt.
Mommy: What kind of treasure?
Thing Two: Candy!
Thing One: And pennies!
Mommy: (knowing these items are obviously on display in Thing One’s absent sister’s room) Hmmmm….. well, you can’t go in Hallie’s room to look for treasure today.
Thing Two: But we want to look for candy!
Thing One: And pennies!
Mommy: How about if I hide some candy in the living room and you can come and find it?
Thing One: And money? I really need you to hide some money.
Mommy: Only candy. You have to do some work around here to get money.
Thing One: (pauses) How about I help you hide the candy and that’s my chores? And you give me money for that? And I get to keep the candy?
Brilliant.

And Thing One is HOW old?
Four. And a half.
